Quantity of Drywall Boards and Sheathing

  1. Measure the length of each wall and add them together.
  2. Multiply the length times the ceiling height to determine wall area.
  3. Multiply the length by the width of the room to determine the area of the ceiling.
  4. Add the area of the walls to the area of the ceiling.
  5. Divide the total area by the area of the board to be installed. (if 4 x 8, divide by 32)

Note: Typically, you do not deduct for openings. Keep calculations separate for the ceiling if different size boards are being installed.

DRYWALL

Note:   Additional studs should be considered for corners and openings.

  1. Wall is 14.5'
  2. Convert into inches, 14.5 x 12 = 174"
  3. 174 รท 16 = 10.875 (round to 11

     You need 12 studs.

Example: Studs are to be installed 16" on center. The length of the wall is 14' - 6".

     To Estimate Quantity of Studs

  1. Measure the length of the wall.
  2. Make sure the length is in inches.
  3. Divide the length by the "on-center" spacing (in inches) and round to the next whole number.
  4. Add one.
