Calculating Area and Volume for Common Geometric Shapes

To convert to square yards, divide by 9. For Cubic yards divide by 27.

Examples

A) Calculate Cubic Feet (Volume) in a tank that is 20' Tall with an 8' Diameter.
.7854 x 8 x 8 x 20 = 1005.312

B) Calculate Cubic Feet (Volume) in a pyramid with dimensions of 10' x 10' with 14' height.
10 x 10 x 14 = 1400
1400 รท 3 = 366.52

C) Calculate Cubic Feet (Volume) in a cone with 5' radius that is 14' tall
1.0472 x 5 x 5 x 14 = 366.52

Circumference of a Circle

Calculate the Linear Feet around a circle that has a 12' diameter.
12 x 3.1416 = 37.6992'

  1. Calculate the circumference of the column. 5 x 3.1416 = 15.708
  2. Multiply the Circumference by the Height of the column. 15.708 x 25 = 392.7 SF
  3. Multiply the SF by $1.25 392.7 x 1.25 = 490.88
  4. Multiply the cost to paint one column by 10 (How many Columns) $490.88 x 10 = $4908.80

Example:
A painter charges by the square foot and needs to determine the Area of a Column that is 25' tall and 5' in diameter. He will charge $1.25 per square foot.
There are 10 columns total
